The port of Livorno shows signs of progress

THE port of Livorno registered a 9,8% rise in container throughput in the first half of 2016. With 423,312 teu handled by the end of the period jenuary-june, the port continues its growth, but at a reduce pace compared with more than 30% increase reported in the corresponding period of 2015. Contributing to more than one quarter of the container traffic, transhipment trade is set to come a very significant business, increasing  30% to 128,145 teu.

 

Statistics from the Livorno Port Authority point to increases in all other markets:  ro-ro freight units grew by 13,3% to 191.493 vehicles and forest and paper products reported above-market growth of 11,4% (935.719 tonnes). New car traffics performed very well too, posting a growth of 25,5% to 300.387 units. Meanwhile, in its cruise business, the italian port saw a 13,9% increase to 281.281 cruisers compared to 246.969 for the first half of 2015. In addition to its good year for cruise traffic, Livorno also achieved 672.360 ferry passengers, up 22,2% on year.

 

In jenuary-june, Livorno Port’s cargo throughput touched 17m tonnes, an increase of 5,1% from the previous corresponding period last year.
